There are many debates in the food world. Does pineapple belong on a pizza? Is a hotdog a sandwich?

Another biggy is whether a Jaffa Cake is a biscuit or a cake (ahem, more on that here).

But we've just realised there's another Jaffa Cake debate that's being slept on... specifically, what's the correct way to eat them?!

Yes, a spokesperson for Jaffa Cakes, owned by the folks at McVitie and Price, has only gone and revealed that the chocolate part isn't actually the top.

Yup, our worlds are shaken, too.

This means you've probably been holding your Jaffa Cakes upside down the whole time (and eating them that way, too).

The tea was spilled in a Facebook group recently, by a Jaffa Cake lover named David.

He claimed to have messaged the Jaffa Cake official page to find out the info himself, asking "what side of the Jaffa is the bottom?"

"Hi David, our Jaffa Cakes go through a reservoir of chocolate, so the chocolate is on the bottom. Thanks, Jaffa Cakes," the screenshotted response read.

"OMG just turned my world upside down," someone said in the comments.

Whilst another wrote: "WTF dude".

This isn't the first time McVitie's have rocked the snacking community with info on how to eat their biscuits.

So there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth.

But this isn't the first time McVitie's has tried to tell the right way of eating their biscuits.

A similar palaver happened in 2017, when someone asked not only about Jaffa Cakes, but Hobnobs and Digestives, too.

Speaking to Good Housekeeping back then, a rep said: "When we make our McVitie's chocolate biscuits - whether that be Chocolate Hobnobs, Chocolate Digestives, or even Jaffa Cakes - they go through a reservoir of chocolate on the production line.

“This essentially 'enrobes' the bottom in chocolate - so we can confirm that the chocolate is officially on the bottom of the biscuits."

Of course, literally nothing is gonna change if you eat your Jaffa Cakes 'upside down' – but, hey, now you know.
