Domino's pizza has sparked debate online after launching a new incentive to encourage customers to tip their drivers.

The initiative, called 'you tip, we tip', will give anybody who tips their delivery driver $3 (£2.39) or more online a $3 coupon in their next order.

The deal is only available in the US, and the sticker is that you do have to use the coupon within a week, so it means two Domino's in a row (not that we'd complain).

"Domino's drivers have been hustling to deliver hot, delicious pizzas since 1960, and we love that customers have been tipping them for their great service since day one," said Kate Trumbull, who is Domino's senior vice president and chief brand officer.

"But these days, everywhere you go, there's a tip screen. The pressure to tip is real, even when no extra service is provided.

"So, we decided to flip the script and show our appreciation by tipping customers back."

Now, we know what you're thinking. That's all well and good, but can't they just pay their drivers more in the first place?

"Right. This is just an incentive to get customers to pay their workers more instead of actually having to pay them more themselves," said one person as the news landed on Twitter.

As another said: "Here's a tip. Just pay your employees better and we will just keep buying pizza."

"Take the money from the coupons and…..pay people instead?," a third suggested.

They have a point, tbh.

The campaign begun on Monday, April 29th, and is running for a limited time (we don't have an end date, yet).

Of course, if you are in the States and you were gonna tip anyway, it's a good way to save some cash on your next order.

But as for the campaign as a whole? It's safe to say the jury is still out.
