Ah, the humble cup of tea... nothing will provoke more passionate opinions amongst citizens of the UK.

We've seen Americans share (frankly offensive) versions of the cuppa in the past, but the recent arrival of Bridgerton on Netflix convinced a Kansas-based influencer to throw a high tea party, and upset a lot of people in the process.

The influencer, named Kelsey Pomeroy, told viewers that she was brewing a 'proper' cuppa, but it's safe to say that many would disagree with that definition.

"I am an American learning how to make a proper cup of British tea because I'm throwing a high-tea party in honour of the Bridgerton premiere," she said in a video on her socials.

"Internet told me to buy these teas, the PG Tips and the Yorkshire Gold. Someone said that the perfect way to prepare this tea is to boil the milk with the water first and then pour it on top of the tea and then add the sugar... but no, I'll put it in a pan."

Kelsey pondered putting two teabags in her mug, but eventually settled on one.

She then let everything steep for a couple of minutes before pouring out the brew.

Granted, the tea looked pretty normal despite the milk boiling technique, but Kelsey went on to ask people for feedback... and let's just say, she probably wished she hadn't.

"If you know how to make a proper cup of British tea, what should I change and try differently? Should I have boiled it in the kettle?" she said.

Big yikes.

Yep, people were angry (Credit: Instagram/kelsewhatelse)

"As a Brit, I'm going to need an obscene amount of therapy to get over the boiling milk," said one person in the comments.

Whilst another wrote: "Genuinely think you may be banned from the UK for this."

"WHO TF TOLD THIS WOMAN TO BOIL THE MILK," despaired a third.

As a fourth penned: "I can't unsee this catastrophe".
